I would need to see a 100% zoom screen shot of both side by side, and view that at 100% zoom so that we see pixel-to-pixel.I charged both batteries and the D80 came to life. The D300 will not power on. No green light indicator when the battery is placed inside, nothing. I read some of the suggestions on the forum and followed those. The 300 f/4 PF is about as sharp as its predecessor, which is plenty sharp for most people. The 300 f/4 PF + TC-14e III also handily beats the 80-400 at the 400mm end. Even with a TC-17e II at 500mm, I still find the 300 f/4 PF sharp enough on my D810. Encouraging to hear.

If the DX magnification effect is what you are after I suspect the D500 is the better choice.
