Ironicly, flickmace + shield is a fine tank build. Summoners are able to get in the way, threaten space, and have a pretty decent HP*AC pool. Inventors with a companion are similar, but not quite at the same level. DEX based champions work very well as archers, interestingly enough. A paladin archer is pretty decent, because you can be in melee and shoot. Champion is also a good base class for the Eldritch Archer archetype, because there are many good cleric focus spells that a champion can access and utilize via Eldritch Archer.
